Ah, the joys of the daily commute!!

Kyrie and I are AMAZING!!!

Yesterday was an event! Kyrie begged me to ride home with her from work so she wouldn't be lonely during the rush hour commute. I, graciously, accepted and we were on our way (I haven't been home before 5:00 all week, so I was thrilled to leave at 3:30)! We got on I-215 from 201 and were cruising along chatting when Kyrie's car made this funny "thunk"... it sounded like a water bottle had popped in the back seat. How do I know this? Because I have about 5 water bottles in my back seat and eventually, they all POP!! Anyways... we looked at each other and around where we were, to see if Kyrie ahd run something over; but we didn't see anything so we kept on truckin'! A few minutes later we were up to Kyrie's freeway speed and suddenly, the car sounded like we were dragging a dead body behind it.

We looked at each other, dumb-founded at the noise. Initially, I looked at Kyrie and calmly stated "I think we've got a flat tire". Before I knew it, we were coming to what seemed like a sudden stop in the middle of the busy freeway. Remember the freeway scene in Clueless? Yep, that was us!!

...and then, the panic set in...

My Reaction: "Oh my heck, Pull Over, Pull Over....you're not over far enough....Kyrie get over more....now you're too far over."
Kyrie's Reaction: "What is that noise? Brittainy, I don't know what to do... call the police!" So, apparently, she took her foot off of the gas (again, in the middle of the freeway; during RUSH HOUR) and started to pull off the road.

We pull over and yes, the tire was blown. So, then the adventure really begins! We get out of the car (Both of us in High-HIGH Heels) and research the damage. Kyrie tends to carry a lot of "treasures" in her trunk, which normally isn't a problem until you blow a tire and need to get to the spare. So, Kyrie and I were on the side of I-215, in heels, unpacking the trunk, and then trying to get the dang tire out! We're both short...very short, so when we did get to the tire, it was really hard for us to get it out of the trunk! With that we were on our way to being "fix-it" girls.

Our dad made it a point to teach us how to change a tire (we can do oil too!) when we were little. What he failed to do was teach us that there are other types of jacks, not just the pump up and down kind. So, for the next 10-15 minutes Kyrie and I are trying to get the handle on the jack to release so we can get this stupid tire on. Cars keep going by, a few Highway Patrol cars go by, and the next thing we know we're getting honked at...by our mom!!! (She recognized us from Kyrie's bright orange heels!) At this point, we're both on our cell phones trying to get a hold of someone, mom has pulled over about 200 yards ahead of us, and we don't know whether to laugh or cry! For the record, we called: Mike (who didn't answer), Josh (who was in Ogden picking up Declan, laughing his head off), Stephen and Lance (who were both gone for the day), and Ryan (who picked up his phone, said, "Obviously I'm at work. Call me later." then hung up).

Just when mom calls to see if we are all right a scary beater white truck pulls over to help us. His plates were from California (thanks all you nice Utah drivers for just passing us!!) and he was a very tired looking old man. As soon as he pulled over another SUV pulls behind us (Wow! 20 minutes later and we finally get 2 strangers!!) Any who, the SUV leaves because the little old man told him to, and he continues to change our tire. After another 15 minutes we were on our way!

Kyrie dropped me off at home at 5:00, where I casually questioned Mike for not answering his phone... informing him of the emergency situation that we'd just been through. And Kyrie, then, continued the adventure all the way to Big-O tires in Layton (off of main!). Our dad told her to take the car there and tell them "Wayne Sent Me". So, that is what she did. There, the guys are looking at her like she's some crazy person and ask her who Wayne is and why they should know them. At this time the water works were about to start and she just stared blankly at them (anyone who knows how sensitive my sweet baby sister is, should be proud of her for holding in the sobbing). Finally, they said, "We're just kidding! Your dad already called to tell us you were coming!". It took all that she had not to cry, swear, or throw a jack. Good thing they admitted to the joke then! They fixed the tire in record time (actually she had to get a new one...but who's counting!) and then she finally made it home to Josh and Declan!

The End!
